another Pleasant Valley Sunday...

So, I'm still on my walking program. I think I heard somewhere that it takes 21 days to create a new habit. Tomorrow will be my 21st day and it feels like a habit now to get up, get dressed, walking shoes on, and head out the door. It makes my day so much better.

I'll tell you a secret. This morning I got lost. Our neighborhood has tons of side streets that sort of meander around, some of them ending up nowhere, some of them curving around eventually to another street, and some of them actually forming a sort of grid that you usually think of when you think of city streets. Anyway, I ended up pretty far from my house and what usually is a 30-minute walk ended up being over an hour and a half and almost 4 miles. The good thing is, I can't even imagine being able to do this three weeks ago. So I've come a long way in a short time and I feel really good about that.

Here are a few pictures I've taken the last couple of days. This is our horn of plenty I put on our hearth (can't see the horn, just the flowers).

Here's a better shot of it:

This is my wreath hanging on our front door.

And here's one more shot of it. You will notice Chance had to get in on the shot.

Walk the talk

So, I have been walking. Today is the 13th consecutive day I've gotten up, gotten dressed and out the door. When I first started, I could only walk for about 10 minutes and then I was exhausted and ready to collapse. The last couple days I have walked for more than 20 minutes and for a little more than a mile. I think that's a lot of progress for 13 days.

Most days I am ready and even sort of excited to get out and walk. There's only been one really bad day when I just felt like crap and did not want to do it. But I laid in bed, thinking about how much I did not want to get up and walk, and finally decided to "just do it." So I did. And it made my day better.

I hope I can continue to do my walks every day. I even have an inclement weather plan -- if it's not raining much, I will go ahead and walk. If it is, then I will pull out my Leslie Sansone walk in place video (that I'm ashamed to say I've never watched, not once) and put in my time in front of the TV for that day.

Friday nights are the best

I love Friday nights ... always have. The weekend stretches out in front of you and you are full of plans for the weekend. It's like the possibilities are endless.

Snapped a couple pics of Boots a few minutes ago. He's such a photogenic cat, I love taking pictures of him.

Boots, the kitteh blanket

My cat loves to spread himself over a piece of furniture like a blanket ... a big ol' cat blanket.

Sunday evening check in

It has been a beautiful weekend here in Memphis. The weather is gloriously cool with no humidity. I've had doors and windows thrown open to let in the fresh air. October is my favorite month of all.

Yesterday was our anniversary and it was as beautiful as it was the day of our wedding. Thinking about our anniversary got me all nostalgic, so I dug out our wedding albums and went for a walk down memory lane.

This was Steve and his best man:

This was the sweet, beautiful church we were married in:

Here's a few more from the wedding and reception:
